Three new carriages being built for the Groudle Glen Railway

Construction of three new bogie carriages for the Groudle Glen Railway is underway. The underframes, built by Midcam Engineering in Barnsley, were delivered to the Isle of Man in late March. Construction of the bodies was being progressed by the Village Workshop, in Laxey, in April.The project is being aided by a grant from the Manx Lottery Trust. The vehicles are similar in design to the GGR's current bogie coaches, but with modifications (including curved ends) to echo the appearance of original 1890s Groudle Glen coaches, and will be varnished rather than painted. Other improvements include a new seating design and provision for wheelchair access.
