Ian Allan wins RM award for services to preservation

The Railway Magazine Award for Services to Railway Preservation has been won by Ian Allan OBE. Launched in 2012 as part of the Heritage Railway Association awards scheme, the trophy seeks to recognise outstanding contributions in the field of railway heritage and enthusiasm. It was the unanimous decision of the HRA judges that Mr Allan should be nominated for: 1. Popularising the hobby of locospotting by launching the ABC number book series. 2. Inspiring and educating a generation of enthusiasts through the publication of quality railway publications. 3. Sponsoring the long-running National Railway Heritage Awards. RM editor Nick Pigott said: "Ian Allan is the'godfather'of British railway enthusiasts. There cannot be a single one of us who has not at some time bought or read an Ian Allan publication and we all owe him a tremendous debt. This award is a small way of showing our appreciation and I am honoured and delighted that he has agreed to accept it."
