Can fellow readers solve a mystery for me? On November 12, 1985, the body of British Rail Type 2 diesel No. 27043 (ex-D5414) was covered in what can only be described as a 'big plastic bag' and taken by lorry from Glasgow's Eastfield depot to Patterson's tip in the city's Mount Vernon area. There it was unceremoniously tipped into a giant hole in the ground. Three DMU vehicles -Nos. 50836, 50889 and 59347, plus Park Royal-built railbus No. 79971 - were also dumped in the pit, which was then filled in.
