A high Court challenge by St Albans District Council against the decision to build a rail freight terminal on the former Radlett aerodrome has been dismissed. The council has spent seven years and more than £1.5million fighting plans by developer Helioslough for the terminal. The application for the terminal was approved by Communities Secretary Eric Pickles last July following a public inquiry. In the latest challenge, the council, which has twice refused planning consent, claimed that because an incinerator on green belt land at Hatfield had been turned down by the Government, the decision should be the same for the terminal.The court disagreed and told the council to pay £13,269 costs. Objectors are now calling on Hertfordshire County Council not to sell the land.
