Mid-Norfolk sleeper project advances north

Large scale re-sleepering on the Mid-Norfolk Railway's northern extension has advanced more than 100 yards north of Hoe. The railway's chairman, Barry Woodgett, reports that the condition of the redundant BR track is in "poor shape". The first 21/2-mile section, north of Dereham, was completed in 2013, but rarely sees trains because there is no station or run-round at Hoe yet. Once the track, which was last used in 1989, has been upgraded as far as Worthing crossing, it is expected to be a simpler task to reach North Elmham -51/2 miles beyond Dereham - which the MNR hopes to reach in three years. However, a new station will need to be built there.
