Dennis Howells' newly overhauled pannier tank No. 9466 was shown off for the first time in May. Gentle running in at its Quainton Road engineering base was followed by an informal re-entry into traffic at Didcot Railway Centre; the Newcastle built locomotive was one of the stars of an event ironically celebrating 175 years of Swindon Works. The locomotive was first restored in time to take part in GWR 150 in 1985. It still sports the early BR black livery that it adopted in 2011. Mr Howell's 1952 0-6-0PT next outing will be at the Mid-Norfolk Railway's June 24-26 steam gala, a regular fixture for the engine. The MNR has a number of its support crew based as volunteers at the Dereham line.
