ON SATURDAY, September 16 the 1M21 04.26 Glasgow Central-London Euston hit a person in the Abington area, closing the WCML and the A702 main road. A 1Z99 was scrambled from Carlisle, operated by Class 57 No. 57308, and ran to Abington Down loop. The 1M07 06.30 Glasgow Central-London Euston was formed by stepping up 'Voyager' units Nos. 221104 and 221105, and was diverted via the GSW route through Kilmarnock/ Dumfries to Carlisle. The 1M21 eventually left Abington some 179 minutes late and was terminated at Carlisle. The set was then returned to Polmadie depot running as 5Z21, departing Carlisle at 08.57. The delays caused by this incident also had a knock on effect to the ECML services diverted via Carlisle. 1E03, the 06.04 Edinburgh-King's Cross was cancelled, 1E05, the 07.04 Edinburgh-King's Cross was 30 minutes late, and 1E07, the 08.22 Edinburgh-King's Cross was observed passing Thankerton with 91119 leading and DVT 82231 on the rear.
