NOTED south of Basford Hall, Crewe, on June 9, Class 221 No. 221110on the 14.15 Crewe-Barton-under-Needwood e.c.s. move was emitting massive plumes of smoke from the rear bogies. It transpired the unit took 50 minutes to do the four-minute trip from Basford to Madeley, ending up 55 minutes late at Barton. FARM animals on the track near Carstairs on Monday, June 19 resulted in the 08.51 Edinburgh Waverley-London Euston via Birmingham New Street train, formed of Class 221 Nos. 221142+221117, being delayed by 27 minutes on arrival at Carlisle.
