I WAS delighted to read in The RM (April, p11) that costs for further electrification of the UK rail network could be slashed by up to half. Electrification of all main routes should be an urgent priority, given the carbon emissions situation, to be followed by all other routes in due course. A sustainable supply of electricity from solar, hydro, wind and wave power is now growing rapidly and will continue to expand at a faster rate as time goes on.
