Wien Hauptbahnhof: Mehr als ein neuer Bahnhof

Das Gesamtprojekt Wien Hauptbahnhof ist eines der anspruchsvollsten österreichischen Projekte und die für Wien vordringlichste Infrastrukturmaßnahme. Ausgehend von einer historischen Situation als Hauptstadt der Monarchie mit zwei Kopfbahnhöfen entsteht ein moderner Durchgangsbahnhof. Bei diesem Projekt geht es nicht nur um das Bahnhofsgebäude oder um ein Gleisprojekt allein, sondern um den entstehenden Stadtteil als Lebensraum, also um die Entwicklung eines gesamten Stadtviertels mit moderner Lebensqualität. Einerseits wird der neue Hauptbahnhof die Stadt Wien zu einem Knotenpunkt des transeuropäischen Schienennetzes machen, andererseits werden die angrenzenden Bezirke durch die Schaffung eines attraktiven Wohn- und Büroviertels wesentlich aufgewertet.%The global project of Vienna main station is one of the most demanding Austrian projects and for the city of Vienna it is the top priority infrastructure project. On the basis of the historical situation as the capital of the monarchy with two terminus stations, a modern through station is created. This project is not only a station building issue or a track project, but it involves the emerging city district as a living space, i.e. the development of a complete neighbourhood with a modern quality of life. On the one hand, the new main station will make Vienna a central hub of the trans-European railway network, on the other hand the neighbouring areas will be substantially upgraded by the creation of an attractive living and office district.
