A Makeover for the 11th Avenue Bridge

Long walks, gruelling runs, sunny days and floods. The 11th Avenue Bridge that spans Regina's Wascana Creek has seen the changes and the beauty that only time and Saskatchewan's unforgiving weather can bring. Since its construction in 1942, the bridge has presented beautiful scenery to people travelling to RCMP "Depot" Div. or to the Royal Regina Golf Course. Unfortunately, after exceeding its 50 year life span, and despite remedial work that was completed in the 1980s, the 68-year-old wooden structure that had charmed "Depot" s landscape for so long took a bow and had to be closed. According to an analysis made in 2008, the bridge was no longer capable of safely supporting the loads from city buses and fire trucks.
