Reconstruction of Eastern Avenue Bridge over Kenilworth Avenue in Washington, DC.

The existing bridge only allows for a minimum vertical clearance of 14-0- along Kenilworth Avenue. As a result, the bridge has been struck several times since it was constructed in 1956 because of the low vertical clearance. The existing bridge serves as a pedestrian crossing, truck turn-around and link between the portions of northeast D.C. separated by Kenilworth Avenue. DDOT is reconstructing the existing bridge to increase the vertical clearance above 16-0 and to increase safety at the crossing for pedestrians, vehicles and trucks which use the bridge.
