Foreword - a report from COPSA '97

摘要

Two of the two traditional uses of Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) have been to ensure that the design of nuclear power stations is "balanced" (that is that no type of fault dominates) and to demonstrate that the risk to both individual members of the public and to security as a whole is acceptably low. A third application, which is becoming more and more widely used, is to optimise the approach to maintaining the plant as utilities endeavour to increase output without compromising safety.
