Updated rules meet current requirements

In April 2008, Lloyds Register (LR) launched updated rules for floating offshore installations at a fixed location, and a new ShipRight-FOI structural analysis procedure for FPSOs. The rule requirements for FPSO structures have been extensively updated by LR as a result of the introduction of the common structural rules (CSR) for double hull oil tankers by the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). More detailed rule requirements are now provided for conversions and redeployments and the ShipRight-FOI procedure includes flow charts to help quickly identify what analysis is required. The latest revision has been developed through consultation with external industry representatives. In common with most other classification societies, the previous LR rules for FPSOs extensively cross referenced the rules for oil tankers. In April 2006, IACS introduced CSR for double hull oil tankers and these new rules replace the tanker rules of individual IACS classification societies and provide a uniform standard for all new oil tankers.
