QE class assembly gets under way

Construction of the UK Royal Navy's first CVF carrier took an important step forward recently when the massive crane, Goliath, swung into action for the first time, signalling the start of the assembly phase of the vessel.After months of planning and preparation the first section of Central Block 03, built by A&P Tyne and transported to Rosyth just a few weeks earlier, was secured to the cranes lifting gear. Goliath then gently lifted the 800tonne section from the ground, smoothly hoisted it up and eased it into place on top of Lower Block 03, starting a new chapter in the construction of the carriers.
