Third Venezuelan OPV commissioned

The Venezuelan Navy recently commissioned the third in a series of four Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) built for it by Navantia in Spain.The vessel, Yekuana, will be able to perform a variety of missions such as surveillance and protection of the exclusive economic zone, protection of maritime traffic, defence of strategic interests, search and rescue operations, support for other units and humanitarian actions, and control of marine pollution. It will also be used in the fight against smuggling, drug trafficking and illegal immigration, and for surveillance and gathering of operational and environmental intelligence.
