Vessel collision avoidance system from HHI

Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) claims to have developed a collision avoidance system for vessels, capable of automatically detecting reefs, ships and small craft and other obstacles within a distance of 50km. Dubbed the Hyundai Intelligent Collision Avoidance Support System (HiCASS), the tool has been designed to achieve compliance with IMO's Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs) and is reportedly able to distinguish between vessel types, and to calculate risk based on factors such as wind speed, wave height and weather conditions.
