July saw Dutch vessel factory Shipyard De Hoop deliver the first in a 10-strong PSV order to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC)'s operating division, Esnaad, in the form of the 70.4m × 15.8m Esnaad 221. Designed to balance enhanced hull volume with low emissions and fuel consumption, Esnaad 221 and her forthcoming sisters - which will be rolled out from De Hoop's Lobith and Foxhol facilities to Esnaad between now and 2017 -are intended to raise the bar in terms of both operational efficiency and environmental standards. The PSV range is designed with a specially adapted bulbous bow, which serves to both counter wave resistance and create more internal volume for cargo, such as brine, cargo fuel oil, drilling water and liquid mud. The forward section of the hull houses tanks for the storage of fuel oil (660m~3), fresh water (412m~3), sewage (10m~3) and bilge water (11m~3). In addition, this area has been installed with foam and dispersant tanks (accommodating 26m~3 of foam and 10m~3 of dispersant), should Esnaad 221 and her family be called upon to engage in firefighting or oil spill recovery duties. Two remotely controlled fire monitors, designed to spray a mix of foam and water, are positioned on the vessel's top deck, and the PSV can rely on a pair of 6m spray booms to lay down dispersant in waters affected by oil pollution.
