Ingalls names LPD 27

Huntington Ingalls Industries' Ingalls Shipbuilding division named the amphibious transport dock Portland (LPD 27) in May 2016. USS Portland is the 11th LPD built by Ingalls. US Marine Corps Major General Christopher Owens, director of the US Navy's expeditionary warfare division, was the keynote speaker, and said: "Marines love these ships. They are perhaps the most versatile ships in the fleet. And in the current era when the US faces a variety of threats and potential crises across the globe, LPDs uniquely enable the US Navy and Marine Corps team to adapt and respond to a full range of scenarios we might face."
