Third Indian Kalvari class submarine commissioned

On 10 March 2021, INS Karanj, the third of the P75 Kalvari class submarines for the Indian Navy was commissioned. INS Karanj was built by Indian shipyard Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) based on the French Scorpene design. Construction at MDL was achieved with limited external support, taking advantage of the successful technology transfer from Naval Group during the construction and trials of the first two boats. The Scorpene is a 2,000tonne conventional submarine designed and developed by Naval Group for a range of missions, including surface vessel warfare, anti-submarine warfare, long-range strikes, special operations or intelligence gathering.
