Shipyard problems continue to plague US Navy carrier and sub availability

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) in the US has reported on serious issues at US Navy run shipyards that are causing significant delays to maintenance of US Navy aircraft carriers and nuclear powered submarines. The Senate Armed Services Committee, in a report accompanying a bill for the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019, included a provision for GAO to review the performance of US Navy shipyards.
