Israel Shipyards has been awarded a contract to build two offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) for an unspecified African Navy. The OPV 45 offshore patrol vessels are designed for a wide range of missions, including protection against the increasing threat of piracy in the region in which they will be deployed. The OPV 45s will be equipped with dayight observation systems as well as stabilised weapon systems, both Israeli-made, which will maximise the effectiveness of the vessels during their various missions.
