Babcock International has completed the first docking and maintenance period on HMS Queen Elizabeth at its Rosyth site. A 100-strong team undertook the docking period, which included replacing 284 hull valves and renewing all cathodic protection electrodes and anodes, as well as painting the hull and carrying out work on the stabilisers, rudders and shaft lines. HMS Queen Elizabeth and sister ship HMS Prince of Wales are the largest and most advanced warships ever built for the Royal Navy. The first frigate to be completed by the ARGE F125 consortium led by thyssenkrupp Marine Systems entered service in June 2019. The F125 frigate Baden-Wiirttemberg is the first vessel in a new class of four frigates that will replace the German Navy's Bremen class frigates. The second ship in the class, Nordrhein-Westfalen, is due to be delivered by the end of 2019 and the remaining two ships are due to be delivered in the next two years. The launching ceremony for the multipurpose offshore patrol ship (PPA) Paolo Thaon di Revel took place on 15 June 2019 at Fincantieri's shipyard in Muggiano. The vessel, which is ihe firsl of seven units, will be delivered in 2021. With a length overall of 132.5m and speed of in excess of 31knots (according to configuration and operating conditions), the PPA has a crew of 171 and a combined diesel and gas propulsion system. The vessel, which has the capacity to provide 2,000kW of electricity to land, has two modular zones at the stern and in the centre of the vessel that enable it to embark a number of containerized modules. The stern area is capable of accepting up to five 20ft ISO containers; the central zone can receive eight. Following delivery of the first of class, the remaining vessels will be delivered in 2022, 2023,2024 (two units), 2025 and 2026.
