Shina - a modest yard with great potential

Current emphasis is on construction of medium-size products/chemical tankers to replace obsolete 1970s single-skin tonnage, but this compact yard also hopes to build container ships and LPG tankers.rnA modest Korean yard that seems destined to attract the increasing attention of shipowners around the world is Shina Shipbuilding, based at Tongyoung, on the country's southern coast. We reported in February this year on a new type of 28,200dwt log/bulk carrier currently on order, but recent order book successes have also been centred on medium-size products/chemical tankers. The yard is also just completing the last of five car carriers for a Japanese operator, Cido Shipping.
