Fast ro-ro/ro-pax designs

A recent development at Rodriquez is the movement into the fast ro-pax and ro-ro market. Specifically, the company believes, ferries with a large capacity. The first contracts in this market are for four TRF 82 ro-ro vessels for Medmar SpA and its affiliate Traghetti Pozzuoli SpA. This contract is a massive coup for Rodriquez, as it means it has extended its portfolio to six different types of vessel. The ships, with a value of EUD60 million, will operate the routes to and from the Island of Ischia. Built entirely of steel with a length of 82m, the ferries will each transport 900 passengers and 140 vehicles, reaching a speed of 18knots. Delivery of the first vessel is scheduled for November 2004, while the other three will be delivered in the summer of 2005 and 2006. The hulls were built in Romania in close cooperation with the Aker Braila shipyard,and have been sent to Messina for final outfitting. The TRF 82's propulsion system is based on a well proven and economical solution of two medium speed diesel engines each individually connected to a dedicated CP propeller, via a speed reducing gearbox. The TRF 82 is equipped with a hoistable car deck to increase the loading flexibility between cars and trucks.
