New rig series classed

Last year the American Bureau of Shipping awarded class certification for the Rowan Companies' Scooter Yeargain jack-up - the first of four in a new series of Tarzan Class rigs design targeted for shallow water and deep gas drilling. Scooter Yeargain entered service last year, and ABS has begun the design review process for classing the Bob Keller jack-up, the second in the Tarzan Class design series. ABS completed its review of Scooter Yeargain, classed as an A1 Self-Elevating Drilling Unit, in less than a year. Rowan's LeTourneau yard in -Vicksburg, USA, fabricated Scooter Yeargain with thorough on-site support from ABS surveyors. LeTourneau will build Rowan's remaining three Tarzan Class design jack-ups, which are especially designed to drill deep gas wells down to 12,192m in shallow water ranging from 4.5m up to 91m.
