Singapore's location on the world commerce routes has always provided yards in this area with a good passing trade and over the last 20 years it has been one of world's the leading shiprepair centres. However, the area is facing growing competition from cheaper repair facilities principally in China, but also in Vietnam and Indonesia. Keppel Shipyard's response to this competition has been to rationalise its facilities and to seek high added value repair and conversion work.
