ClassNK chairman wants class to lead on GHGs

ClassNK chairman and president Noboru Ueda has called for class societies to play a more central role in the maritime industry's ongoing efforts to reduce maritime GHG emissions. Speaking at Sea Asia in Singapore, he said: "Classification societies must take a leading role in addressing the challenges of Green House Gas emissions and protecting the environment." Ueda, who is serving as the chairman of lAUb, the international Association ot Classification Societies, opened his remarks by noting the important efforts that IACS has made to the development of new environmental regulations, including establishing a new expert group to advise the IMO on technical issues related to the implementation of its new EEDI scheme. Ht further discussed the association's efforts with regards to the implementation of ILO's Maritime Labour Convention (MLC).
