New fuel-efficient VLCC joins Maersk Tankers

The Maersk Sara is the lead-ship in a series of four new fuel efficient 323,182dwt VLCCs being built by STX in South Korea for Maersk Tankers. The newbuilding is equipped with what is claimed to be the most advanced waste heat recovery system for any VLCC delivered to date. The main propulsion engine is a STX-built MAN B&W 6S90ME-C8 producing 29,340kW MCR at 76rpm and driving a FP propeller for a service speed of 16.20 knots. Electrical power is provided by two STX MAN 6L21/31 gensets with an output of 1,320kW at 900rpm.
