摘要

What did STEM look like 100 years ago? Certainly "STEM" as an acronym, and as a national movement, did not exist as it does today. Neither did we have STEM-focused schools (other than the U.S. Military Academy at West Point) to focus the nation's youth in this course of study. In the K-12 education system, we had science, but that was predominately more focused on the natural sciences and agriculture. For many, work on the family farm took precedence over attending school. Though the public had largely embraced the values and opportunities of education by 1920, it was still a luxury for many.
