No matter how adequately formal education prepares an architect or engineer, it's never quite as adequate as the learning that occurs on the job. One of the most effective ways we've found to help new architects and engineers get up to speed is through mentoring. Mentoring benefits the protege and the mentor, as well as the company, agency or military unit. Based on our experiences, we suggest five steps that can lead to successful mentoring.
