BRAC and Beyond

Each of the last four rounds of military base realignments and closures (BRAC), which began with the first BRAC Commission recommendations in 1988, have required difficult tradeoffs for defense agencies, individual installations and the communities in which bases are located. The BRAC 2005 initiative is no exception. Calling for the closure or realignment of 62 major U.S. military bases and 775 smaller military locations, as well as hundreds of U.S. Army Reserve and U.S. National Guard facilities, the latest round of BRAC will have a widespread impact.
