In 2013 the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) was accepted as a member society of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The move was led by a number of academic institutions that believed their construction management programs "needed a dedicated, distinct accreditation option." This was not surprising since according to CMAA, the quality of tomorrow's workforce is among the most frequently cited concerns in the construction management industry. Says Bruce D'Agostino, President and CEO of CMAA, "ABET has long been the most respected and recognized authority for accrediting programs in engineering and related fields. As a result of CMAA's work with ABET, the industry for the first time will know precisely what comprises an education in construction management. This is a big step toward defining the profession and creating clear career paths for practitioners."
