In May 2014, we revised SAME's mission and developed our Strategic Plan to embrace the vital contributions the A/E/C industry makes to America's national security, thus expanding our aperture beyond our traditional focus on national defense. As members in various SAME forums examined our most pressing national security issues, it was energy, water and climate change that quickly topped the list. Last fall, we took the first step to investigate SAME's role in serving the nexus of U.S. national security and the A/E/C industry by deciding to focus on one major issue initially. Energy emerged for many reasons, among them the implications of energy independence and surety for America's national security and the unique role our membership can play. Hence, this edition of TME is dedicated to energy and the upcoming JETC in Houston will emphasize energy as well.
