Up until recently I had spent many hours afloat, sailing boats of all sizes, but never tackled a trip longer than a cross channel hop. Despite having served eight years in the Royal Navy, I still suffered from seasickness on smaller boats, especially if I spent time below decks in any motion. Whenever I thought about doing a longer passage, which I often did, I wondered how I would cope with the seasickness and other elements that were different from the one or two day sail that I was familiar with.
