TAKING A TRIP

A member was helped by BALPA with a personal injury claim after he tripped over an obstruction whilst quickly walking towards the bus stop at an airport car park when reporting for duty. He received £6,500 in damages. You can read a letter from this member on the letters page. The member fell heavily over an obstruction, which was placed in an unlit area where passengers often walked and was best described as a small rusty girder about a metre long that was bolted to the concrete. It was originally painted yellow, but was now rusty and impossible to see in the dark. The purpose of the metal strip seemed to be to aid the bus drivers in knowing when to stop when reversing.
