Port Vale FC in Stoke is hardly in the Manchester United or Chelsea league - in fact it is three divisions lower, in Football League Two, and recently had to be rescued from financial administration by its own fans. So when the Lome Street approach to the Hamil Road entrance to Vale Park needed its lighting upgrading, the club's chairman, Joan Walley MP (herself a leading light in the APPLG) looked for a helping hand, via her friends in the ILE. Generous support was eventually provided by WRTL Lighting, ably supported by Urbis, Holophane and Southern Electrical Contracting. A number of new street light columns, with attractive banners (see photo) now grace the approach to the club's main entrance. WRTL's Steve Anderson, the ILE Technical Committee chairman (and a Barnsley supporter) who organised the operation, was given the rare privilege of walking down the team tunnel at the match against Leyton Orient, which marked the inauguration of the new lighting.
