Squaring the Square

Renamed in 1998 to commemorate the 1958 arrival of the Empire Windrush and the birth of south London's Brixton as a centre for the Afro-Caribbean community, Windrush Square forms part of London Mayor Boris Johnson's London's Great Outdoors manifesto. The £390m initiative involves more than 80 projects and is designed, as Boris puts it, to create 'a much nicer, brighter and enjoyable city to live, work and play in'.
