Our second technical session on the November 20 was held at Auckland Castle, the historic palace of the Prince Bishops of Durham and the current private residence of the Bishop of Durham. It has recently been refurbished and equipped to offer its splendid facilities to outside organisations for conferences, banquets, weddings and similar events. Members and guests received two papers, the first by Chris Watts of Menvier Ltd., who is Chairman of the British Standards BS5266 Committee - his paper was entitled 'Emergency Lighting BS5266, New Forthcoming Legislation and Within Historic Buildings'. This was followed by a private guided tour of Auckland Castle, before Mike Philips of Lighting Design and Consultancy presented his paper on 'Lighting Historic Buildings'. Auckland Castle provided an excellent venue for both papers.
