Metaphors and analogies used to argue the potential of the Internet can be powerful, persuasive and sometimes misleading. Some talk about the "information superhighway" as if it were the road to the future in education...and that installing an ethernet connection in every classroom is the beginning of long awaited educational reform. Others caution, though, that if the Internet just becomes a means of doing exactly what we are doing now but to more people spread over a larger geographical area, then this medium may become the catalyst of even faster deterioration of education rather than its savior.
