Sharing knowledge the role of the Social Semantic Desktop

Pat Croke Research Manager, Semantic Infrastructure Research Group, Hewlett Packard, Ireland will deliver a presentation on the Social Semantic Desktop at the Second Parallel Session on Day 1 of the Engineers Ireland Annual Conference. In this article, Pat offers a brief introduction to the fascinating world of the Social Semantic Desktop. Vannevar Bush, the noted American electrical engineer and physicist (best known for his design of the differential analyser, an analog computer that could solve differential equations with as many as 18 independent variables) was in charge of scientific research for the United States during the Second World War. In his famous article "As we may think", written in 1945 at the end of the war, he described how the human mind operates by association.
