Advice note for members

Engineers Ireland and ACEI wish to clarify the following matters for members, and for their clients and others, in respect of the Building Control Act 2007, and in particular the provisions of the Act in respect of the regulation of certain professions (architects, building surveyors and quantity surveyors, referred to as "registered professionals" for the purposes of the Act). The Building Control Act 2007 is a composite Act dealing separately with the two distinct issues of building control and the regulation of certain professions. The fact that the title of the Act refers only to building control and not to the distinct issue of the regulation of certain professions is of no legal significance. Chartered Engineers have long been correspondingly regulated by the provisions of the Institution of Civil Engineers of Ireland (Charter Amendment) Act 1969.
