A NEW CHALLENGE: THE RACE TO SEEK EMPLOYMENT

In April 2006, when I was last featured in The Engineers Journal, I had a silver medal from the world championships in 2005 and a full time position with civil engineering company, JB Barry & Partners. The article finished with a question, "Which one will be easier to achieve, an Olympic medal or becoming a chartered engineer?" It was a difficult question at the time, but nearly three years on I can probably give a better answer.In September of 2006 I returned to my office to be greeted by a large poster saying 'Congratulations'. I had again been part of the Irish lightweight four that took a bronze medal at the world championships. China had emerged from nowhere to win and France robbed silver from us by 0.06sec, or a scale ruler in engineering terms.
