Regulation and the burden it imposes is a constant source of anguish for businesses — especially smaller ones — and recently the voices of complaint have been rising. The British Chambers of Commerce Cut Red Tape Campaign has called for many changes, including: a gap of at least four months between regulations being approved and coming into force; a probationary period for new regulations; exemption from employment regulations for firms of less than 50 employees; regular reappraisal of existing regulations; and simplification of taxes.
