My colleagues and I are becoming increasingly irritated at the positioning of Jeremy Clarkson as a champion of engineering - if you read his Wikipedia biography you'll see what we mean. Modern engineering is increasingly inspired by energy andrnurban policy at both national and regional level, not by people who used to race cars at Brooklands. or some other clubby identity.
