Administration Outlines Aggressive Push On Car Fuel Economy Standards

Taking the first step towards establishing motor vehicle fuel economy standards for model years 2017 through 2025, the Obama administration announced Friday it will propose regulations in September 2011 to require annual fuel economy improvements within a range of 3 percent to 6 percent for those model years, improvements that would translate to a fuel economy standard of 45 to 62 miles per gallon-and significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions-by 2025.
