DOE launches $220 million grid modernization effort keyed on regional projects

The Energy Department Thursday launched an ambitious grid modernization effort focused on developing large-scale regional projects that over the next 10 years will demonstrate the feasibility, cost savings and improved reliability that can be achieved through the integrated deployment of new technologies to boost clean energy integration, enhance system resiliency and reduce required power reserve margins, among other goals.
