DOE announces funding for flurryrnof power grid modernization projects

DOE has unveiled a flurry of projects it intends to provide as much asrn$329 million in funding as part of its Grid Modernization Initiative andrnMulti-Year Program Plan.rnOn January 14, the agency announced that, subject torncongressional appropriations, it has identified 88 grid performance andrnmodernization projects that could receive $220 million in three-yearrnDOE funding.rnThe projects will link 14 national labs with more than 100 utilities,rntransmission companies and universities. The projects fall into severalrncategories: grid architecture; advanced grid modeling; standards andrntest procedures; energy storage; solar energy; wind and water;rnadvanced distribution management systems; risk and predictiverncapabilities; transmission reliability; transformer resilience; andrncybersecurity.
