Emas Revamp Proposed To Boost Industry Uptake

Changes to the EU's voluntary environmental management and audit scheme for businesses should make it cheaper, simpler to use and more attractive to industry, says the European Commission. A proposal to revise the EU Regulation on the eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS) was part of the major package of proposals on sustainable consumption and production issued by the European Commission in July. The Regulation was first established by an EU Regulation in 1993.It was revised in 2001 but companies have complained about costs and bureaucracy and participation has been low.
