GREEN CHANNEL SPEEDS ENVIRONMENTAL PATENTS

A fast-track application system for patents that could bring environmental benefits has cut processing times to an average of eight months, according to figures released by the business department (BIS) in December. The average for other patents is 32 months. The Intellectual Property Off ice's green channel service was launched in May 2010. Of the 329 applications received to date, 86% were from UK firms. One third of the applications relate to energy saving technologies.
